Dr. Sipho S. Moyo
Dr. Sipho S. Moyo, is a Development expert with 25 years global and Africa experience. She has lived & worked in 10 countries on four continents: Africa (East, West, North and Southern); USA; Europe and Central Asia/middle East. She is fluent in English, French & Swahili (in that order). She was until recently with the African Development Bank where she served as the Chief of Staff and Director of Cabinet in the President’s office, and then as Senior Director in charge of Special Projects at the Bank.
Prior to taking up this rejoining the AfDB as Chief of Staff to the President in 2015, Dr Sipho Moyo was the founding Executive Director for the ONE Campaign (Africa) an international civil society organization (CSO) co-founded by Bono, known for its smart policy advocacy and creative campaigning on the most pressing development challenges facing the continent. In this role she led a team that successfully developed an authentically African advocacy agenda, directly impacting national and multilateral decision making processes such as the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals agenda and the Africa Union Year of Agriculture (2014).
In her previous roles at AFDB (1998-2010) she held the positions of PrincipalCountry Economist (Nigeria) and Country manager/Resident Representative of the Bank in Nigeria and then in Tanzania (2004-2010). In Tanzania, she became the first head of a multilateral org, first woman and first African to lead Policy Dialogue on economic governance between the donors and Government of Tanzania, in her capacity as Chair of the Budget Support group of 14 major development partners in that country.
She has also previously worked for the United Nations (UN Habitat), the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), the World Bank and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a special affiliate under President George H. Bush’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Affordable Housing.
She is a member of the Global Agenda Council (Africa) under the World Economic Forum and also a member of the Global Ambassadors Program which is a Vital Voices Mentorship Program that connects young women leaders with women executives for mentorship. She won 2015 African Achievers Award for Organization making a Difference in Africa.
