“Our united voices paint a picture of what we desire for ourselves, for future generations, and
the continent…our desire for shared prosperity and well-being, for unity and integration, for a
continent of free citizens and expanded horizons, where the full potential of women and youth,
boys and girls are realized, and with freedom from fear, disease and want.”African Union’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want
The African Development Conference (ADC) has over the years explored creative and collaborative approaches to opportunities and challenges in Africa, while emphasizing the enduring and dynamic concept of ‘Pan-Africanism.’ This year, we recognize the continent’s renewed resilience in pursuing endogenous development strategies denoted by a common resolve, a common vision, and a common purpose, which altogether point to the growing solidarity of Africans as a vital part of social, economic and political progress.
Thus our theme: “Our Time Our Vision: Wielding Africa’s Potential for Sustainable Growth” aims to illuminate contemporary approaches to endogenous development strategies that emphasize unity and a common vision in the attainment of sustainable growth.
We envision the conference as a platform for the advancement of discourse on the challenges facing the African continent, the framework for addressing these challenges, and the strategies for attaining the ideals set out in the development frameworks. We will seek to unpack the nuances of African development policy strategies in an attempt to help wield Africa’s potential for sustainable growth.
The conference will take an interdisciplinary approach drawing on strategies from three major pillars of sustainable growth: Democracy and Good Governance; Technology and Development, and Economic Partnerships.
Staying true to its convening tradition, the 9th ADC will assemble major stakeholders in African development including policy makers, scholars, government officials, business professionals, civil society, and students. Above all, we hope the conference will serve as a space where different players in development can connect and foster deeper engagements in furthering their common vision.
